Here we have a beautiful example of why the Case XX Hawbaker special knives are some of the most collected knives there are. Stanley Hawbaker, a trapper and hunter had these knives made for his business and decided to call them the “Hawbaker Special”. Here we have a RARE 1971 9 dot “Dotted era” Hawbaker Special pattern with the famous “Improved Muskrat knife”. There were many different patterns of these knives with different tang stamps or “transition models” as collectors call them. Both blades have excellent walk and talk for the age of the knife. This knife features the “Case” shield with nickel silver bolsters, pins and liners with beautiful bone handles. This would be a great addition for any collector of the vintage Case knives. There is a pin crack on the front handle below the center pin, that’s the only thing keeping this from being a mint knife. This is a great buy folks, you do not want to miss out on this beautiful piece of cutlery history. BONE WARNING NOTE: Bone is a natural material prone to cracking. Therefore, some knives may have cracks near the pins or bolsters. Will be noted if cracks are visible.

Description

Case’s old carbon steel blades, with bone handles. Nickel silver bolsters, pins, liners and shield. Blades measure 2 7/8”. Blade thickness is 1/16”. Closed length is 3 7/8”. Made in the U.S.A. The blades are both the California clip style blades with the tang stamp reading “Case XX USA” with 9 dots on both blades, and etched on the main blade “Improved Muskrat Knife”. Due to the natural state of bone, handles may have a hairline fracture at either the pins, shield or spring pins.
